1. Mortgage SurveysCan we help? How much do they cost? How long do they take? 2. Trees and the lawCan I cut back my neighbour’s trees if they are overhanging my garden? Yes you can as long as you offer the cut branches that were overhanging your property back to your neighbour. However, we would always recommend that you discuss this with your neighbour first to prevent any unnecessary problems or disputes. 3. High hedgesWhat can we do about them? If high hedges are causing you a problem by reducing light to your property you need to consider pruning them or removing them. However, if the hedge belongs to a neighbour you must discuss the problem with them. If all else fails, consult your local planning department who will be able to discuss the new hedges planning laws with you. 4. Trees and SubsidenceCould there be a problem with a tree next to my house? Yes there could be a problem especially if your house is built on clay soil. Clay tends to swell and contract depending on the amount of moisture within it. If you are concerned we would recommend that you engage an approved consultant to undertake a survey for you prior to any works being carried out by an approved contractor. 5. Trees and drainsWill tree roots effect my drains if they are too close? That will depend on the species of tree and the age of your drains. Generally speaking new drainage systems are made from plastic pipes which are very rarely effected by tree roots however older systems are usually made from clay pipes and tree roots will from time to time penetrate these drains causing problems. Remember drainage problems are not always the fault of nearby trees. If in doubt contact an approved consultant to undertake a survey for you. Specialist cameras can be used in drains to identify potential problems, root samples can be sent off for analysis to establish the culprit tree species. 6. Wood chipHow much does it cost?
